Despite the recognized value of this imaging modality, the quality and accuracy of CT images can be compromised by a number of implants. The presence of metal objects such as dental fillings, hip or knee prostheses, heart pacemakers, war fragments, and spinal cages can cause severe image artifacts. These types of artifacts appear as black and white streaks in the CT images, obscuring the structures and tissues around the metal implant which decreases the diagnostic values of the images. Metal artifacts also affect the accuracy of radiation therapy treatment planning, which relies on X-ray images to determine electron density and estimate the relative stopping power of particles. In this regard, different algorithms of the Metal Artifact Reduction (MAR) have been proposed over the decades to address this issue. In this study, five commonly used MAR algorithms in clinical practice have been evaluated using simulated and clinical datasets. These algorithms include linear interpolation (LI_MAR) of the degraded data in the sinogram space, reduction of metal artifacts by normalization method (NMAR), metal deletion technique (MDT), Orthopedic metal artifact reduction (OMAR), and a method based on iteration algorithms (MAP). Clinical CT images in different anatomical regions of the body, with different dimensions and types of metal implants, have been studied to evaluate the performance of the MAR algorithms. In order to quantitatively evaluate the quality of CT images corrected by the different MAR algorithms, the Normalized Root Mean Square Error (NRMSE) metric was employed. The quantitative analysis demonstrated the overall superior performance of the NMAR algorithm in effective metal artifact reduction compared to the other algorithms. The NMAR method exhibited relatively less signal distortion and reasonable processing time which make it a dependable solution in clinical practice.}, keywords = {Medical imaging,Metal artifact,CT,MAR}, title_fa = {مطالعه‌ی مقایسه‌ای روش‌های تحلیلی برای کاهش آرتیفکت فلزی در تصاویر CT}, abstract_fa = {طی چند دهه گذشته، مقطع‌نگاری کامپیوتری با اشعه ایکس (CT) به عنوان یکی از روش‌های اصلی تصویربرداری مقطعی در طیف وسیعی از کاربردهای بالینی در رادیولوژی تشخیصی، انکولوژی و تصویربرداری مولکولی چند حالته، معرفی شده است. علی‌رغم ارزش اذعان شده این روش تصویربرداری، در مواردی به دلیل وجود کاشت‌های فلزی، کیفیت تصاویر CT تحت تأثیر قرار می‌گیرد. وجود اجسام فلزی مانند پرکردگی دندان، پروتز مفصل ران یا زانو، ضربان‌سازهای قلب، ترکش‌های جنگی و قفس‌های نخاعی باعث بروز و تشدید آرتیفکت‌های تصویر می‌شوند. این نوع آرتیفکت‌ها، به شکل خطوط سیاه و سفید در تصویر نمایان می‌شوند که باعث پنهان شدن ساختارها و بافت‌های اطراف کاشت فلزی می‌شود و ارزش تشخیصی تصاویر CT را از بین می‌برند. هم‌چنین این آرتیفکت‌ها بر دقت طراحی درمان پرتو درمانی که به تصاویر سی‌تی برای مشخص کردن تراکم الکترون و برآورد توان متوقف‌کننده نسبی ذرات متکی هستند، تأثیر می‌گذارد. بنابراین برای رفع این مشکل، طی 4 دهه، الگوریتم‌هایی با عنوان کاهش‌دهنده آرتیفکت فلزی (MAR) ارایه شده‌اند. در این پژوهش، پنج الگوریتم MAR با استفاده از شبیه‌سازی و مطالعات بالینی ارزیابی شده است. الگوریتم‌ها شامل درون‌یابی خطی (LI_MAR) داده‌های تخریب شده در سینوگرام، کاهش آرتیفکت‌های فلزی به روش نرمال‌سازی (NMAR)، روش حذف فلز (MDT)، کاهش‌دهنده آرتیفکت فلزی برای کاشت‌های ارتوپدی (OMAR) و یک روش بر پایه الگوریتم‌های مبتنی بر تکرار (MAP) است. تصاویر بالینی، در نواحی مختلف بدن، با ابعاد و جنس‌های مختلف کاشت فلزی، برای ارزیابی عملکرد الگوریتم‌های MAR، مورد مطالعه قرار گرفته است. به منظور بررسی کمی کیفیت تصاویر اصلاح شده با الگوریتم‌های MAR، معیار خطای میانگین مربعات نرمال شده NRMSE، محاسبه و ارزیابی شده است. نتایج حاصل از ارزیابی الگوریتم‌ها، نشان از عملکرد مؤثر الگوریتم NMAR در کاهش آرتیفکت فلزی به نسبت‌ الگوریتم‌های دیگر، در اغلب موارد بوده است. هم‌چنین بررسی پارامتر زمان پردازش الگوریتم، ارزش کلینیکی الگوریتم NMAR را نمایان می‌کند.}, keywords_fa = {تصویربرداری پزشکی,آرتیفکت فلزی,CT,Metal Artifact Reduction}, url = {https://jonsat.nstri.ir/article_1426.html}, eprint = {https://jonsat.nstri.ir/article_1426_d7e414399946ddd70e32f9581903c4e2.pdf} }
