Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyze and compare the spectral and spatial characteristics of plastic rod and plate detectors. In this context, the variations in the FWHM at the Compton edge of the energy spectrum at different source positions for both types of detectors were investigated. For this purpose, the energy spectra of the detectors were recorded at various source positions and analyzed separately. The dimensions of the rod detector were 5 × 50 cm, and the dimensions of the plate detector were 50 × 5 × 50 cm. The results show that as the distance between the source and the detector increases, the FWHM increases in both types of detectors; however, the change is more pronounced in the rod detector compared to the plate one. These differences are attributed to the geometric characteristics and photon scattering behavior in each detector. Furthermore, the results indicate that the rod detector have higher spatial resolution. These features could be useful in optimizing the geometric design of detectors for applications such as nuclear imaging, industrial tomography, and others.
